Slinkii Swimwear - Case Study

To fully understand the rest of this blog post, we need to get a few definitions out of the way. Firstly, a business model refers to plans on how a company will generate its revenue, identify its product offering and target its customers (Chaffey et al, 2016). Secondly, innovation refers to the development of something new, whether it’s an idea, method or device (Merriamwebster.com, 2018).


The concept of superior innovation in a business model highlights companies’ ability to come up with an entirely new product/ service, or a new strategy to market their product/ service.

‘SLINKII’ is a women’s active wear and swimwear brand, who founders are striving to change industry standards around products. Their business-to-consumer (B2C), business model was formed around being environmentally friendly but affordable. Thus, they created an eco-luxe swim range, from 100% regenerated nylon fishing nets that have been reclaimed from the ocean (Slinkii.com, 2018). The nets are transformed into the eco-luxe nylon, which creates the swimwear.



For every tonne of fish-net waste in our oceans, SLINKII can make 26,000 bikinis (Slinkii.com, 2018). In turn it is reducing ocean waste, landfill and saving marine lives. This innovative production technique proves that sustainability and fashion do not have to be boring. People can still look stylish, while supporting the environment and future generations ability to enjoy our environment, like we can today.

The SLINKII brand is not only supporting the environment through their products, but for every purchase, they plant a tree to aid reforestation. They also only use bio-degradable packaging to send out purchases. SLINKII is not only targeting women who are currently environmentally friendly with their purchases, but they are educating women on the importance of being environmentally friendly.

SLINKII is a leader in the environmental, fashion industry and will be an inspiration to future swimwear brands trying to make it big in this industry. SLINKII was created in a time where the public’s growing awareness for the environment and supporting eco-friendly brands is increasing. It won’t be long before all brands and consumers will need to be doing their part to be environmentally conscious by changing their purchasing habits to support our planet.
